The good news is that the proposal includes pathways along canals in the South Cole neighborhood.
The bad news is that the proposal contains is no connection from the South Cole area to any point north of the freeway. I have tried crossing the freeway at Cole and Overland and Maple Grove. The sidewalks and bike lanes there are not safe.
This is contrary to the stated goals in the report of a connected network of stress free pathways. Is it too much to ask for a safe bike route to the greenbelt? What is the justification of leaving the south part of the city separated?
The cynic in me is also concerned about things not stated. There is no target completion date, there is no phased build-out plan. Given that they have been working on the greenbelt for 40 years, will this plan take another 40 years? And if so, is the plan to do the extensions close to the existing greenbelt first? Will we be last again?
